So you’re looking to create a jobs board and are thinking of using WordPress to manage it? Awesome! WordPress is an amazingly easy to use platform that makes running a jobs board dead simple, yet it still gives masses of functionality.

In my hunt for the best WordPress jobs board theme, I went through several themes and plugins. I resided with JobRoller, provided by appthemes, as it was by far the most functional, easy to use and good looking! Here’s my review of the themes that I tried. I wasn’t too keen on the plugins as they didn’t provide the functionality that I needed but I’ve added them in my post on jobs plugins if you’re interested.

So, back to the themes:

1. JobRoller

This is the second theme released by AppThemes after their hugely successful classified ads software, ClassiPress. The JobRoller theme leveraged much of the advanced features that had been used in ClassiPress and that had take years to develop and refine. It offers too many features to name but a few that are worth a special mention include a separate resume (CV) section, custom post types, personal profiles, transaction logging, different colour schemes and layouts, multi-language support, and more! Full feature list and demo can be found here.

2. JobPress

DailyWP’s JobPress theme is a touch cheaper than JobRoller and they reiterate the word ‘simple’ across their sales page. That’s exactly what this theme is; a simple WordPress jobs theme meaning it’s right for you if you aim is to achieve simplicity which acknowledging that you may have to give up on a little extra functionality. They do have a 7 day money back guarantee if you change your mind, something that is rare in the software business.

3. Templatic Job Board

This theme has many of the JobRoller features but it comes in at third on our list for a number of reasons. The first is because we don’t think it looks as good as the other themes – but that’s just our opinion. Secondly, there doesn’t seem to be much emphasis on free upgrades and continually development, something that is a key benefit with the other job boards and something that we think is essential when buying a theme if you want to keep up with the WordPress core updates.

As you may know, many jobs sites charge employers anywhere from $50 to $1,000 to post a job. Now that starting a jobs site has become so easy it’s possible for the average individual to crack into niches and take some of the ridiculous amounts of money being earned in the jobs space. Follow this blog as I uncover niches that you can take advantage of with you all-mighty jobs site!

If you’re not up for transforming your whole site into a jobs board, you can get hold of a WordPress plugin that’ll add a jobs feature to your existing site.

You’ll want to make sure that the plugin is robust; the last thing you want is for jobs to disappear or for people to not be able to apply! We tested various WordPress job plugins and here are our top three:

Job Manager

This is a free WordPress jobs plugin which allows you to manage all job openings for your organization, create multiple job via different categories, include images/icons, and display job widgets. Applications can be emailed to you, filtered for particular criteria, and easily viewed through the job application interface.

WP Job Board

Notable features include the ability to set the currencies that are allowed, create promotional codes and coupons, create automatic emails, and assign a price for new job listings. Extra features include the ability to create an unlimited number of categories, different job types, and PayPal payments. It also comes with a great set of job board widgets like job search, jobs categories, job board menu, job types, recent jobs, job feeds, and featured jobs.

WP Careers

This is another free plugin where potential applicants can register, create a profile, upload images, and add or edit their resume. The admin can then approve or deny the submissions as well as create, delete, or modify them.

If you want to create a whole jobs site then check out our article on WordPress job themes. Naturally, due to the greater complexity to create these sites, these will require that you fork out some money. But if you’ve got a good niche idea, you’ll reap the rewards!
